
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 16

Minear, Dittmar, Edgell, Kessler, Fanning, Helmick, Prezioso,
Snyder, Anderson, Bailey, Walker, Plymale, Bowman, Wooton,
Minard, Chafin and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Requesting the Division of Highways name the section of Interstate
64/77 between the 35th Street Bridge and the north end of the
Yeager Bridge in Kanawha County the "Pearl Harbor Survivor
Highway".

Whereas, On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl
Harbor, the United States' center for military action in the
Pacific Ocean. 2,403 people were killed and 1,178 people were
injured during the attack; and

Whereas, The USS West Virginia was hit during the attack on
Pearl Harbor; and

Whereas, There are approximately 115 survivors of the Pearl
Harbor attack still living in West Virginia; and

Whereas, The Division of Highways has determined that the
section of Interstate 64/77 between the 35th Street Bridge and the north end of the Yeager Bridge in Kanawha County is available for
designation as "Pearl Harbor Survivor Highway"; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways
name the section of Interstate 64/77 between the 35th Street Bridge
and the north end of the Yeager Bridge in Kanawha County the "Pearl
Harbor Survivor Highway"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner
of the Division of Highways, the Secretary of the Department of
Transportation and the Governor.
